Photovoltaics

Artificial light sources are crucial for testing photovoltaic devices and characterizing properties like photoconductivity and quantum efficiency in new materials. Traditional xenon arc or tungsten-halogen lamps are used, but their spectral output is hard to adjust and their lifespan limits long tests. Lumencor’s illuminators solve these issues and offer new capabilities, combining up to 21 solid-state light sources for any required spectral distribution.

Conventional simulators use optical filters to shape the spectrum. However, LED solar simulators make use of the narrowband spectral output of LEDs to match the light source spectrum to the standard spectrum. In order to provide irradiance levels required by the AM1. 5G, high power LEDs are used.
